Clarinet quartet The Hyde Quartet plays MacMillan, Beethoven, Paulus, Lago and Tung in 'The Road Home' at Stockbridge Parish Church.
The Hyde Clarinet Quartet are playing The Road Home at Stockbridge Parish Church on Wednesday 21 October, presented by Hannah Shimwell. It's a clarinet quartet, so four of them on stage, and the programme pulls from a few different places: MacMillan, Beethoven, Paulus, Lago and Tung. That's a fair bit of ground to cover in one sitting, and the names span a good range of styles and eras.
They've titled the whole thing The Road Home, and they describe it as a journey through the cities, countries and cultures of the world, rooted in the realisation that every path leads home. It's a bit of a theme to hold the night together, and the programme follows it — the music comes from different places, and the whole thing is built around that idea of travelling and coming back. It's not just a random collection of pieces; there's a thread running through it.
The Edinburgh date is one stop on a multi-date tour, with the quartet also playing at St Bride's Episcopal Church in Glasgow and Park Church in Stirling. So if you're around for this one, you're seeing them as part of a wider run of shows across Scotland.
