Candlelight tribute concert to Coldplay, with live vocalists and orchestra, from the Concerts by Candlelight series at the Assembly Rooms.
The Music Of Coldplay By Candlelight comes to the Assembly Rooms on Saturday 24 October, a tribute to Coldplay performed by candlelight with vocalists and a live orchestra. It's part of the Concerts by Candlelight series and arrives in Edinburgh from London's West End.
The venue is the Assembly Rooms on George Street in the New Town, a Category A-listed Georgian building and one of the city centre's largest multi-purpose event spaces, and a key venue of the Festival Fringe. Enormous crystal chandeliers, gleaming gold leaf and giant gilt mirrors reflect its history, while the latest technology was discreetly incorporated following an extensive restoration completed in 2012 that returned the Ballroom, Music Hall, Drawing Rooms and Crush Hall to their former glory. For more than two centuries it's been at the heart of the capital, hosting monarchy and celebrity royalty alike and playing its part in two world wars.
On the night, the music is handled by vocalists and a live orchestra, with the whole thing lit by candlelight. The set draws from Coldplay's catalogue, and the orchestral arrangements replace the band's usual sound. It's a tribute, so you're hearing their songs rather than the band themselves.
