A beautiful puppet show with catchy tunes and an uplifting tale of self-acceptance for all ages, based on the children's picture book by Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley.
The Littlest Yak plays at the Studio Theatre on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, with two shows each day at 11:30am and 2pm. It's LAStheatre's stage adaptation of the children's picture book by Lu Fraser and Kate Hindley, and it's part of their 2026 UK tour, which also stops in Stirling, Lanark, Dundee, Grangemouth and Paisley.
The story follows Gertie, a tiny yak with the curliest, whirliest wool and the grippiest of hooves, who's in a rush to grow up and be just like the Big Yaks, only to discover there are things only she can do. Set in the heart of the Himalayas and told with beautiful puppets and catchy tunes, it turns her frustration into a gentle message about growing up, confidence and recognising what makes you different. It's the kind of thing that works for kids and adults alike, and it's a nice, self-contained trip to the mountains for a couple of hours.
On the credentials side, the production was nominated for four OffWestEnd Awards, for performance, writing, music and design. It runs 45 minutes with no interval, so it's a manageable length for younger audiences, and it's suitable for ages 3 and over. If you've got little ones, the morning slot is a good shout, but the afternoon one works just as well.
