Free panel discussion with the Federation of Scottish Theatre, EPAD and Creative Edinburgh on mentoring artists, followed by a Q&A and networking session.
Demystifying the mentoring process is on at the Studio Theatre on Thursday 5 November, starting at 6pm. It's a free session, and the whole thing is built around a panel discussion with partners from the Federation of Scottish Theatre, EPAD and Creative Edinburgh. After the panel, there's a Q&A where you can ask your own questions, followed by a short, informal networking session to meet the people on the panel and other artists in the room.
The evening is part of Open for Creatives, Capital Theatres' monthly initiative for local artists. It's run by Talent Development Coordinator Marion Geoffray, who offers advice, signposting and a sounding board for ideas on a one-to-one basis. The whole point is to work with artists individually and help them widen their networks, rather than just running group workshops. It's worth keeping in mind that this isn't a pitching session, and Capital Theatres isn't a producing or commissioning house, so the focus is on support and guidance rather than getting a show on their stage.
The Studio Theatre itself opened in 2013 as a contemporary, flexible space for rehearsals, workshops and small-scale performances. It's one of three Edinburgh venues run by Capital Theatres, alongside the Festival Theatre and the King's Theatre. The charity stages over 700 performances a year and is supported by the City of Edinburgh Council.
