A tribute concert by Henry Reilly, Chatonda Ridley and Michael McCabe recreating the 1966 set of The Jimi Hendrix Experience on its 60th anniversary.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience are playing Cabaret Voltaire on Sunday 8 November, a concert marking the 60th anniversary of the band's formation. The night is built around a specific moment in rock history: the Experience's first live appearance in Great Britain, which they gave at the Scotch of St. James in London on 25 October 1966. The set recreates that night's bill, 21 songs the trio played, wrote and recorded during the autumn and winter of 1966.
It's a long set, and it follows the band's first chapter in London. It starts with the songs Jimi had in his back pocket when he first arrived in the city and works its way through to the psychedelic extravaganzas that helped birth a new kind of music. Hearing 21 songs from that one legendary winter gives a proper sense of the creative ascent they were on back then, rather than just a handful of the well-known tracks.
On stage, the trio consists of Henry Reilly on vocals and guitar, Chatonda Ridley on bass guitar, and Michael McCabe on drums. They're recreating the set as a three-piece, just as the original Experience did.
