Free family day with interactive workshops, a marketplace of support agencies, yoga and cooking, and free admission to Dynamic Earth afterwards.
The Big Family Event is coming to Dynamic Earth on Saturday 21 November, a full day run by Cyrenians' Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution (SCCR). It's built for families bringing at least one young person aged 10 or over, though younger children are welcome and under-16s need to come with a parent or legal guardian. It's not a drop-in thing, so you'll want to clear the whole day.
The morning and afternoon are filled with interactive workshops and discussions on wellbeing and family life, alongside a marketplace of organisations and agencies. There are activity areas too: a creative corner, a games and play zone, yoga and cooking, and a dedicated quiet space if things get a bit much. Lunch and refreshments are provided throughout, and when the session finishes at 3pm, everyone gets free entrance to Dynamic Earth.
SCCR runs the event as part of their wider work, which includes free digital resources, training and events to help young people, families and those who work with them manage family conflict and improve relationships. They put the day in a stark context: in 2023-24, more than 5,400 young people aged 16-24 presented as homeless in Scotland due to relationship breakdown, the equivalent of fifteen young people every day.
