Free recital series with Lawrence Dunn and Philomusica of Edinburgh performing Bach and Bonsor.
Lawrence Dunn is at St Giles' Cathedral on Sunday 18 October, as part of the St Giles' at Six recital series. He's joined by Philomusica of Edinburgh, who return to the cathedral for this one, and the programme puts two very different pieces side by side: J. S. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No 5 and the Scots Suite by Brian Bonsor.
Dunn is a composer and improviser born in Walthamstow, London. He trained as a pianist and percussionist at Trinity College of Music, then studied at Cambridge and at Huddersfield under Bryn Harrison, and was shortlisted for the 2018 Gaudeamus Award. His music has been performed by Apartment House, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Quatuor Bozzini, Plus-Minus, Slagwerk Den Haag, Ensemble Mosaik, L'Instant Donné, Philip Thomas and Juliet Fraser, and a 2022 Wigmore Hall premiere was picked up by Huddersfield Contemporary Records.
St Giles' at Six is a free recital series at the cathedral that showcases local and international performers of classical and contemporary music, and this particular programme pairs a Bach staple with Bonsor's Scots Suite.
