Free concert by the Scots folk choir Sangstream, led by Corrina Dawn, of seasonal folk songs from Scotland, England and beyond.
Sangstream are singing at St Giles' Cathedral on Sunday 22 November, from 6pm to 7pm. It's part of the St Giles' at Six series the cathedral puts on, and the programme is a varied one, mostly seasonal folk songs from Scotland, England and further afield. If you're around the Royal Mile that evening, it's a good excuse to step inside.
Sangstream is an Edinburgh community choir, founded in 1997 and now around 60 voices strong. They're led by Corrina Dawn, an acclaimed Scottish traditional musician, and their repertoire draws on Scottish folk song, both traditional and contemporary. For this concert, they're adding in seasonal material from England and beyond, so you'll hear the Scottish stuff alongside songs from other places.
The choir's roots are right here in the city, and they've been going for nearly thirty years, so they're well-established in the local folk scene. With around 60 voices, it's a full choral sound rather than a small ensemble, and the seasonal focus of the set makes it a natural fit for late November.
