Live jazz and folk show from the Soundhouse Organisation series at the intimate Traverse Bar.
Haftor Medbøe and Konrad Wiszniewski play the Traverse Theatre on Friday 27 November, as part of the Soundhouse series. It's an evening of live, in-person music in the Traverse Bar, and the two of them are the sole bill.
They describe the performance as drawing on a breadth of contemporary sound worlds to create a lush and enveloping cinematic audience experience. It's a broad way of putting it, but it gives you a sense of where the night is heading: less of a traditional gig and more of a soundscape to sit in. The cinematic side is the key—they're working with sound to build a particular atmosphere around you, rather than just playing a set of songs.
The show is presented by the Soundhouse Organisation, whose Soundhouse series brings a range of global jazz, country, traditional and folk acts to the Traverse Bar. It's a small, intimate space, and that's where the cinematic side of the night comes into play—the music is meant to wrap around you, and in a room that size, it's hard not to feel it. The series is built on live, in-person gigs, so this is a night for being there in the room rather than listening from a distance.
