Irish folk music tribute show by a cast of musicians to The Dubliners, with jigs and ballads at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
Seven Drunken Nights bring their tribute to The Dubliners to the Edinburgh Playhouse on Wednesday 17 March 2027. It's a night built around the folk songs that made the original band famous, with Whiskey in the Jar, The Irish Rover and Rocky Road to Dublin as the mainstays. The show is performed by a cast of Irish musicians who set out to capture the spirit, energy and humour of the tradition, blending boisterous jigs with poignant ballads.
Much of that energy comes from the raw, resonant sounds of the banjo and the tin whistle, which they use to evoke the atmosphere of a crowded pub in the heart of Dublin. It's a sound that sits at the core of the Irish folk tradition, and the set moves between the louder, foot-stomping numbers and the slower, more reflective ballads.
This isn't a new production. It's filled a decade of nights and more than 1,000 standing ovations in packed theatres, and critics have described it as more than a simple impersonation, offering a true reading of the music and the inspiration behind it. The cast describes the show as bringing Ireland's rich folk music tradition to the stage, and the setlist draws on the classics that defined the Dubliners' sound.
