Screening of Richard Linklater's 'School of Rock' (2003) with English descriptive subtitles, followed by a live performance by the GCP Band.
Grassmarket Community Project is screening Richard Linklater's School of Rock (2003) on Sunday 1 November, from 2:00 to 4:15 PM, at 86 Candlemaker Row. The 109-minute comedy is rated 12A and will run with English descriptive subtitles, and once the credits roll, the GCP Band takes over for a live performance.
The screening opens I Like It Here: A New Season Celebrating Community, Human Connection and Love, a programme of eight films presented by Grassmarket Community Picturehouse and the Edinburgh Film Guild. Linklater's comedy was chosen for its fun, feel-good and inclusive message about how everyone has the potential to be brilliant — something the project says is what they're all about at GCP.
The GCP Band, led by volunteers Calum and Chris, have been writing original songs and performing covers together for several years and rehearse every Monday at the venue. All income from the sliding-scale tickets supports the community cinema. The session is supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI's Film Audience Network, on behalf of Screen Scotland and the BFI National Lottery.
