São Paulo Dance Company brings its Brazilian Perspectives triple bill to the King's Theatre, featuring three powerful female voices from Brazil's contemporary dance scene.
São Paulo Dance Company are coming to the Kings Theatre on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 February 2027, both nights starting at 7.30pm. They're touring Brazilian Perspectives, a triple bill that brings together three different pieces by three Brazilian choreographers. The Edinburgh dates are presented by Dance Consortium.
The programme is Agora by Cassi Abranches, Umbó by Leilane Teles and EST.AÇÃO by Lili de Grammont. Agora is an explosion of rhythm and energy that draws on Afro-Brazilian fusion. Umbó is a ritual that blends evocative vocals with the rhythmic textures of Afro-Brazilian traditions. EST.AÇÃO looks at climate change alongside the unpredictability of human connection, moving between humour, tension and celebration. Between them, they cover a fair bit of ground, from the high-energy Afro-Brazilian side of things to a piece that stops to think about the planet.
Founded in 2008, São Paulo Dance Company is widely regarded as Brazil's leading dance company. They've built a reputation for a style where classical technique meets contemporary innovation, driven by a Latin pulse that blends the elegance of classical ballet with the sensuality of Latin American dance. This is their second UK tour, following a successful British debut. Critics have called their work 'red hot entertainment', 'sizzling hot' and 'the best thing to come from Brazil since Pele'.
