The annual youth performance by South East Scotland Scouts and Girlguiding, mixing music, comedy and choreography, returns to the King's Theatre.
The Edinburgh Gang Show is back at the King's Theatre from Tuesday 17 to Saturday 21 November, running for five evenings at 7pm with a matinee at 2pm. It's the annual production from South East Scotland Scouts and Girlguiding Edinburgh, and this year more than 250 young people are involved. Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Explorers and Rangers all take part, so it's a proper cross-section of the local youth organisations rather than just one group.
The show has been running in the city since 1960 and is one of the biggest and most popular Gang Shows in the UK. It works on a variety format, mixing powerful music, same-stage comedy, dramatic moments and ensemble choreography. This edition is a brand-new show, and it marks a return to the King's Theatre after a few years at the Festival Theatre, with the new material billed as fit for the refurbished venue.
Beyond the performance itself, there's a fair bit going on behind the scenes. The production is designed to help the young people involved develop their theatre and performance technique, and to build confidence, resilience, leadership, independence and teamwork. It's as much about the process of putting it together as it is about the nights on stage.
