Comedians go head-to-head in a battle of roast jokes, with each battler delivering five jokes to defeat their opponent.
Roast Battle is back at Monkey Barrel Comedy on Tuesday 17 November, one of its regular Tuesday night slots. The format is straightforward: two comedians go head-to-head in a battle of verbal onslaughts, each getting five roast jokes to take down their opponent. One reviewer described it as 'a no-holds-barred contest of comedic athleticism, brazen putdowns and lightning-fast comebacks'. It's a high-energy, competitive night, and it's recommended for ages 16 and over.
If you can't make it into town, the show is streamed live through NextUp, so you can watch from home. The room is Monkey Barrel Comedy at 9-12 Blair Street, which has been named 'Scotland's Best Comedy Venue' since 2020 at the Chortle Awards. The List calls it 'a year-round Edinburgh institution', and The Telegraph has described it as the 'Beating Heart' of the Fringe. It's a well-regarded spot with more than 500 five-star TripAdvisor reviews, and it was home to both of the 2022 Edinburgh Comedy Awards winners as well as the Best Comedy Show winners in 2023 and 2024. Comedians Sam Campbell and Kevin Bridges have praised it, and Olga Koch called it 'the best comedy club in the world'.
