Six-piece band led by trumpeter Rikki Abbott plays an evening of bebop-flavoured jazz, with original music and re-arranged classics, at Leith Depot.
Rikki Abbott and the Disciples of Bop play Leith Depot on Wednesday 28 October, with the music starting at 7:00pm. It's a bebop-flavoured jazz night in the venue's intimate upstairs room, one of Edinburgh's busiest grassroots music spaces.
Abbott is a trumpet and flugelhorn player described as an extraordinary Nu-Jazz/Funk/Blues/Fusion artist, and he's leading a six-piece band for this one. The set brings together the best of his original music alongside re-arranged classics, so you'll hear his own writing and some familiar standards given a new shape. The bebop influence runs through both, and the full band fills out the sound.
He's played some of the bigger jazz festivals across Europe, including Montreux, North Sea, Cork, Londonderry and Calander, so this is a chance to catch him in a much smaller room. The upstairs space at Leith Depot keeps things close, and the bebop lean of the evening fits that sort of setting.
