Steely Dan tribute show covering hits and album tracks from 1972 to 1980 at The Voodoo Rooms.
Reelin' in the Dan play The Voodoo Rooms on Thursday 29 October, a night dedicated to the music of Steely Dan. The set draws from the band's output between 1972 and 1980, the period that covers their entire recording career from Can't Buy a Thrill through to Gaucho.
They're playing the hits and selected deep-cut album tracks, so you'll hear the well-known songs alongside the less-frequented ones from across those years. If you're familiar with the discography, that's a fair chunk of the catalogue to work from. The 1972-1980 window takes in the early, more guitar-led sound of the first two records and the increasingly polished, studio-perfected production of the later albums, so the set has room to move between those different eras.
It's a tribute night, so the whole evening is built around that one catalogue rather than a mixed bill. The focus stays on the Steely Dan songs throughout, with the hits and the deeper cuts pulled from the same run of albums. If you've spent time with the records, it's a good chance to hear them played live in a room in the city.
