Talk by fashion historian Dr Casci Ritchie on Prince's flamboyant look, with a garment-by-garment exploration of his style.
Dr Casci Ritchie is taking the stage at Dovecot Studios on Thursday 3 December for a talk on Prince's flamboyant look. Ritchie is a Scotland-based fashion and culture historian, writer and educator whose doctoral research looked into the origins, materiality and afterlives of Prince's dress. The talk itself is a garment-by-garment exploration of that look, and it serves as a companion to the latest edition of her book, On His Royal Badness: The Life and Legacy of Prince's Fashion (2026), which frames Prince as a fashion icon whose sartorial brilliance and self-expression continue to shape contemporary culture.
Dovecot Studios is a world-renowned tapestry studio and a landmark centre for contemporary art, craft and design in the heart of Edinburgh. The Dovecot Gallery runs exhibitions and events supported by Creative Scotland and the Dovecot Foundation, and the building also houses the Dovecot Shop of contemporary Scottish design and the award-winning cafe, The Pantry at Dovecot. It's hosted several fashion and costume shows over the years, including Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop and Fashioning Hitchcock: Costume and Suspense.
