Scottish Dance Theatre family show Pirates! with dance, theatre and storytelling, following best friends Tom and Daisy on an adventure.
Scottish Dance Theatre bring Pirates! to the King's Theatre on Saturday 22 May, a family show that mixes dance, theatre and storytelling. It's the latest creation from Artistic Director Joan Clevillé, and the full company of dancers takes the stage for it.
The story follows best friends Tom and Daisy, who get swept away into the world of Captain Sandy Rogers and her rowdy crew. From there it's a proper adventure: slippery zombies, strange underwater creatures and a final duel with the wicked Captain O'Greed. It's built around identity and friendship, and it's a playful blend of dance, theatre and storytelling rather than any one of them doing all the heavy lifting.
On the production side, there's lavish set and costume design and original music by Luke Sutherland. The whole company of dancers is on stage, so you'll see the full ensemble in action. The critics have been warm to it: The Stage called it 'joyful... a treat for the heart and the senses' and The Guardian described it as 'a celebration of our imaginary worlds'.
