Adult creative workshop led by Jen O'Flaherty to cut, cup and shape Italian crepe paper into a dinner-plate Dahlia flower.
Jen O'Flaherty is running a crepe paper workshop at Lauriston Castle on Saturday 21 November, starting at 12:30. She's a paper artist from Edinburgh Paper Flowers, and the whole session is built around making a dinner-plate Dahlia from Italian crepe paper. You'll learn how to cut, cup and shape the paper into floral designs, with a good bit of the afternoon spent on dyeing techniques to get the colours right. It's aimed at all abilities, so you don't need to be an experienced maker to join in, and everyone leaves with their own finished flower.
The setting does a fair bit of the heavy lifting here. Lauriston Castle is a 16th-century tower house with Victorian extensions and early 20th-century interiors, sitting in gardens that look out across the Firth of Forth. The house and grounds were left to the city by the Castle's last residents and now hold a wide range of collections. The gardens are free to enter all year round, while the Castle itself opens at set times by guided tour, alongside a programme of talks, creative workshops, film screenings and family activities.

All the materials are provided, so you just need to turn up. The workshop runs from 12:30 at Lauriston Castle, 2A Cramond Road South, Edinburgh West EH4 6AD, and costs £40.
