A jazz-age murder mystery where guests use their sleuthing skills to uncover the culprit at Lauriston Castle, set in 1926.
Edinburgh Living History are taking over Lauriston Castle on Sunday 8 November for Murder and all that Jazz!, a jazz-age murder mystery set in 1926. The premise is simple: you're invited to a party, and while you're there, you'll need to use your sleuthing skills to figure out who the culprit is. If you get it right, there's a small prize in it for you.
The date isn't random. The evening is part of the castle's centenary, marking 100 years since the estate was given to the nation back in 1926. It also follows on from the group's murder mystery that became a key event for them that year, so this one is a bit of a return to form. It's a shift in era for them, too: they usually stick to late Victorian and Edwardian settings, but here they're stepping into the 1920s, which they describe as the golden age of the genre.
There's a break in the middle, and that's when a light Edwardian-style afternoon tea comes out—non-alcoholic drinks and savoury snacks. 1920s dress is welcome if you fancy it, but it's entirely optional, so you don't have to dig out the sequins and headbands unless you really want to.
