Weekly free drop-in live music session at the National Museum of Scotland, with a different soloist, duo or ensemble each week.
Music At The Museum is back at the National Museum of Scotland on Tuesday 27 October, the first of a series that runs through the autumn and into early next year. It's a partnership with Live Music Now Scotland, and the whole thing is built around bringing live music into the heart of the museum rather than keeping it in a separate concert hall. Each week a different soloist, duo or ensemble takes the stage, so the sound changes every time you go.
The programme pairs experienced performers with rising stars, and the repertoire covers folk, classical, traditional and modern music. Because the acts rotate, you'll hear something completely different from one week to the next. On 3 November, for instance, the musician Adam Heron takes over. The series is designed to open up the museum's galleries to music as a way of experiencing them, rather than just looking around, so you're listening while you're in the middle of the collections.
It's a standing performance, though there are a limited number of backed chairs available for accessible seating. The sessions run for 45 minutes, with two slots each day: one at 11:30am and another at 1:30pm. After 27 October, the music continues on 3 and 10 November, and then returns on 2 and 9 February 2027.
