Family activity session for young children that introduces the National Museum of Scotland's objects through song, rhyme, movement and play.
Magic Carpet is back at the National Museum of Scotland on Monday 9 November, the latest in a cycle of family sessions that run throughout the autumn and into early spring. It's a dedicated activity for young children, designed to introduce them to the museum's objects and themes in a way that's more about doing than just looking.
Each session works around a single theme, which the group explores through song, rhyme, movement, play and the handling of objects. It's a hands-on approach, and the Learning Communicators on hand are there to suggest which galleries to visit afterwards, so you can follow the thread from the session into the rest of the museum. The sessions now take place in a secure space, which means the smaller ones can move around and explore safely without you having to hover every second.
It runs for 60 minutes, and there are two sessions per date. If the 9 November one doesn't fit your schedule, the cycle continues on 16 and 23 November, and then picks up again in early 2027 on 1, 8, 22 and 28 February, and 1, 8 and 15 March. That's plenty of dates to choose from if you're planning a trip with the kids over the next few months.
