Stand-up show by award-winning comedian and doctor Michael Akadiri at Monkey Barrel Comedy.
Michael Akadiri brings his show Don't Call Me Uncle! to Monkey Barrel Comedy on Friday 23 October, with the set starting at 7.30pm. It's a solo stand-up night, so Akadiri is the only name on the bill.
If you haven't come across him yet, there's a fair bit to go on. He's a multi-award-winning comedian and a doctor, as well as a husband and father — a few different lives running alongside each other. He picked up the Komedia New Comedy Award and the Comedian of Medicine Award at the Haags Comedy Festival, and was nominated for the NextUp Biggest Award in Comedy. He's also toured as support for Jason Manford.
He's worked across a good range of TV and radio, too. You'll have seen him on Comedy Central LIVE, ITV's Stand Up Sketch and Channel 4's Stand Up to Cancer, and heard him on Capital Xtra's Breakfast Show, LBC and BBC Radio 4's Loose Ends. The critics have a few ways of describing him: the Metro called him 'supremely talented and likeable', Chortle went with 'hugely entertaining' and the Guardian described him as 'politically punchy', with sharp wit as his trademark. Between the medical background, the family life and the comedy, there's plenty of ground for him to pull from.
