Stand-up show by comedian Matt Winning, who is a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Award, about fatherhood, finance and facing the future.
Matt Winning brings Solastalgia to Monkey Barrel Comedy on Friday 27 November, half a dozen weeks after the Fringe has packed up for the year. It's a solo show, and the title comes from the term for the distress caused by environmental change — the feeling of loss when your home changes around you while you're still standing in it.
Winning describes it as an epic story about fatherhood, finance and facing the future. He's a climate scientist by trade, so the environmental thread isn't just a backdrop; it's the thing he knows inside out. The show weaves that professional life into the personal, looking at what it means to bring a child into a world that's shifting under your feet, and how that sits alongside the more mundane, everyday worries of money and family.
He's a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, and Solastalgia is a show he's been staging across 2025 and 2026, so it's had time to settle. He's been around the festival for years, with previous runs including Mugabe and Me in 2015 and Ragnarok in 2016. He's also a writer, with the book Hot Mess published in 2021.

Earlier in his career, he was a finalist in the 2012 BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Award and the Chortle Student Comedy Award in 2010 and 2011, where he performed in character as Steph E. These days he's working as himself, and Solastalgia is the show he's taking through the city this autumn.
It's at Monkey Barrel Comedy Club, 9-11 Blair Street, EH1 1QR, on Friday 27 November. The show starts at 19:30, and tickets are £17.50.
