Novel launch of Bitter Melon by Liv Little, founder of gal-dem, at the queer-run bookshop Lighthouse.
Liv Little is launching her new novel, Bitter Melon, at Lighthouse - Edinburgh's Radical Bookshop on Wednesday 11 November. It's her second novel, following Rosewater, and the launch is hosted by Anahit Behrooz.
Bitter Melon follows Jalissa, who travels to Jamaica, her father's homeland, for the first time while running from heartbreak. The story follows them as they drive through sun-drenched towns and navigate tangled family roots, and as old wounds open and long-held silences begin to break, they cross paths with people whose stories shift their own. It's described as a tender, funny, heart-bruised road trip into memory, mortality and the fierce, fragile love between a daughter and the father she is still learning to understand.
Liv Little is also the founder of gal-dem, and Bitter Melon marks her second novel after Rosewater. The launch is hosted by Lighthouse, a queer-run and owned bookshop on West Nicolson Street.
