Guided tour of the 16th-century Reid tower house and its gardens, marking the centenary of the Reids leaving the castle to the nation.
Lauriston Castle is running its Highlights Tour through the autumn and winter, with guided walks through the house and grounds. It's a 16th-century tower house with Victorian extensions and early 20th-century interiors, set in gardens that open onto the Firth of Forth. The house and grounds hold collections of fine furniture, ceramics and the personal belongings of its wealthy owners, the Reids, whose sitting-room newspaper reports the sinking of the Titanic.
2026 marks the centenary of the Reids leaving the castle to the Scottish nation, and the year's programme leans heavily on the 1920s to mark it. You explore the house on a guided tour, and the grounds include an award-winning Japanese garden. It's a good way to see the place properly rather than just drifting through on your own, especially with the 1920s focus running through the year.
