Hybrid walking tour and magic show through the closes and wynds of Edinburgh's Old Town, blending witchcraft history with live magic.
The Dark Magic and Witchcraft Walking Tour runs through Edinburgh Old Town this autumn and winter, with dates on 31 October, 7, 14, 21 and 28 November, and 5, 12 and 19 December. It's a hybrid of a walking tour and a magic show, threading through the closes and wynds of the ancient Old Town, and it's led by a professional magician who performs live as you go.
The route weaves together the city's history of witchcraft and occult sorcery with macabre storytelling. You'll hear 'The Century of Blood', which tells how the witch hunts began, and the story of Angelic Thomas, known as the Wizard of the Westbow. There's also Edinburgh's Castle Dracula and a magician who died twice. The magic is worked in on the walk, so the stories and the tricks run side by side rather than one following the other.
Everything ends at The Banshee Labyrinth, which is billed as Scotland's most haunted pub. It's an 18th-century venue, and if you're over 18, you can explore the Underground Vaults. There are cocktails on sale and a cinema showing films until 3am, so it's a natural spot to linger after the tour wraps up.
