High-energy traditional Scottish ceilidh dancing night with live music and dance calling from the Rerr Terr Ceilidh Band, suitable for all ages and abilities.
Rerr Terr Ceilidh Band are taking over Assembly Roxy on Saturday 17 October for a Laldie Ceilidh, a high-energy Scottish ceilidh night that runs from 8 pm to 11 pm. The band handles both the music and the calling, so they'll be talking you through the steps as you go. It's open to all ages and abilities, and you don't need to know a single dance to get involved ā the calling is there to bring everyone in, from first-timers to experienced dancers.
This is part of the Laldie Ceilidhs collection, which stages authentic, high-energy traditional Scottish ceilidh dance nights. Each event runs for about three hours and pairs live music with dance-calling from the band, so that everyone can get involved, from first-timers to experienced dancers. A free optional half-hour beginners' class precedes the ceilidh, and the organisers deliberately limit ticket numbers to leave more space on the floor. The nights are open to all ages and abilities, and returning customers are offered a discount on a limited number of adult tickets.
If you've never done a ceilidh before, that half-hour beginners' class is a good place to start. It's optional and runs before the main event, so you can get the basic steps down before the room fills up. The organisers keep a cap on ticket numbers to make sure there's plenty of room to move, which is a welcome touch when the floor gets busy. The whole night is open to all ages and abilities, so it works as well for a group of friends as it does for a family outing.
