Touring musical that re-imagines the 1985 Live Aid gig, with a portion of ticket sales going to The Band Aid Charitable Trust.
Just For One Day: The Live Aid Musical comes to the Edinburgh Playhouse from Tuesday 25 May to Saturday 29 May 2027. It's an Olivier-nominated show that takes the 1985 Live Aid gig and puts it on stage, with an ensemble of rockstars playing the night's most iconic songs. It arrives in Edinburgh as part of a UK and Ireland tour that kicks off in March 2027, timed to mark the 40th anniversary of the original concert.
If you remember the day, you'll know the scale of it: a global event that brought together some of the biggest names in music to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The musical doesn't just recount that, it re-imagines the whole thing as a piece of theatre, with the songs taking centre stage. Bob Geldof called it 'f***ing phenomenal', and Pete Townshend of The Who described it as a 'joyous and emotionally volcanic' night at the theatre. The original West End company also released a cast album, so you can get a feel for the sound before it reaches us.
There's a charitable side to it, too. A portion of ticket sales goes to The Band Aid Charitable Trust, which has raised more than £1.6 million through the show. It's a nice detail to keep in mind, especially given what the original concert was all about.
