A fresh, funny stage adaptation by Ash Parker of Jane Austen's novel, with Strawmoddie Theatre at The Pleasance.
Strawmoddie Theatre bring Emma to The Pleasance from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 December, a stage adaptation of Jane Austen's novel by Ash Parker. It's a four-day run in the heart of the city, so you can catch it on a weeknight or over the weekend.
The story follows Emma Woodhouse — handsome, clever, and rich — who is convinced she knows what's best for everyone around her. She sets herself the project of finding love for her new friend Harriet Smith, and it goes about as well as you'd expect: disastrously. Along the way, two newcomers arrive in Highbury, Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill, and the plot tangles into a mess of misunderstandings and secret crushes. Parker's adaptation keeps the Regency setting but plays it for laughs, and the staging is described as quick-witted and bold, with a dash of chaos and plenty of heart.
