Christmas concert by James Gillespie's High School students at Usher Hall, with tickets from £12.
James Gillespie's High School are taking over Usher Hall on Wednesday 16 December for their Christmas concert, a mid-week evening of music that'll put you right in the festive spirit. It's a proper school production on a big stage, so if you've got family or friends in the mix, it's an easy one to bring them along to.
Usher Hall is the city's premier concert venue on Lothian Road, flanked by the Royal Lyceum and Traverse theatres, and it sits as the keystone of Edinburgh's cultural quarter. The magnificent Edwardian building had a bold, modern make-over and extension in 2010, which secured its place among the premier league of European venues. It's a grand space for a school concert, and having the students perform there gives the whole thing a bit of weight.

Tickets go on sale on Monday 2 November at 10am, so you'll want to be ready if you're planning to go. They start from £12, including all fees, with £10 and £14 options as well. One thing to keep in mind: under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, so if you're bringing the younger ones, make sure you've got that sorted. The concert starts at 19:00, and with the venue right in the cultural quarter, it's a straightforward trip into town.
