The Transatlantic Sessions house band, led by Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas, brings its folk session of Scottish, Irish and American acoustic music to the Usher Hall.
Transatlantic Sessions come to Usher Hall on Monday 1 February 2027, starting at 7.30pm. It's a stop on their 2027 tour, which takes the show to stages across the UK and Ireland.
For those who know the name, it's a familiar one. Transatlantic Sessions is one of the most enduring parts of Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival, with a 21-year run of sell-out shows behind it. The house band brings together musicians from the Scottish, Irish and American acoustic roots traditions, weaving Celtic and Americana together in real time. It's billed as the finest folk sessions from both sides of the Atlantic, and that's exactly what it is: a big, acoustic gathering of players from different traditions sharing one stage.
The house band is led by Aly Bain on fiddle and Jerry Douglas on vocals and guitar, and the rest of the line-up is just as deep: John Doyle, Michael McGoldrick, Tatiana Hargreaves, Allison de Groot, John McCusker, Donald Shaw, James Mackintosh and Daniel Kimbro. That's nine musicians on the go, with special guest vocalists still to be announced. It's a large ensemble, and the whole thing is built around the session format — players listening and responding to each other rather than sticking to a rigid arrangement.
