Free exhibition of medicinal plants, remedy-making methods and recipes from the Garden's 'green pharmacy' marking 20 years of its herbology courses.
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is hosting a Herbology Exhibition on Saturday 13 February 2027, and it's free to enter. It's a look at the history of medicinal plants and traditional healing practices, with a good range of medicinal plants on display alongside the methods and recipes used to make remedies from them — all drawn from the Garden's own 'green pharmacy'.
There's a bit of a celebratory side to it, too. The exhibition marks 20 years of the Garden's contemporary herbology courses, and that's where the mixed-media displays come in: they're the work of students and illustrators, so you'll see the plants not just as specimens but as art. Beyond the history and the recipes, the whole thing is meant to be a prompt to think about plant conservation and biodiversity, which is a fitting place to leave it, given where it's being held.

Getting there is straightforward. The Garden has two entrances: the West Gate on Arboretum Place and the East Gate on Inverleith Row. If you're coming by bus, Lothian Buses routes 8, 9, 23 and 27 serve the West Gate, while routes 29 and 24 take you to the East. Entry is free, so it's an easy one to drop into on a Saturday morning.
