Austrian post-black metal duo Harakiri For The Sky headline La Belle Angele with support from Danish atmospheric black metal band Sunken.
Harakiri For The Sky play La Belle Angele on Sunday 22 November, with Danish atmospheric black metal band Sunken opening the night. It's billed as a post-metal bill, and the two bands sit in a similar neighbourhood: black metal that stretches out into longer, more melodic territory.
Harakiri For The Sky are an Austrian duo formed in 2011, and they've spent the last fifteen years as one of the names most associated with the post-black metal movement. They built a worldwide following around III: Trauma, and their latest album, Maere, hit number four in the German charts. The sound they've landed on blends extreme metal with post-rock, with M.S. on guitar melodies and J.J. on lyrics. It's a combination that lets them move between the harsher, heavier side of the genre and the more open, melodic stretches that give the 'post' part of the name its meaning.
Sunken bring a similar mood from the other side of the continent. They're a Danish atmospheric black metal band that's been working through dark, melancholic and depressive soundscapes on the European scene since 2012. Between the two of them, it's a night that leans heavily into the atmospheric side of black metal, with the Danish band setting the tone before the Austrians take over.
