Free solo piano jazz concert by Italian artist Francesco Cavestri, with the audience surrounding the piano at the Pianodrome.
Francesco Cavestri plays solo piano at the Pianodrome Bruntsfield Community Hub on Friday 20 November. He's an Italian jazz artist and a Steinway Artist, recording for Universal Music Italia, and he arrives in Edinburgh on the heels of a London Jazz Festival date at Steinway Hall.
The concert is conceived as a single, sweeping flow of music born and completed in front of the audience, with improvisation at its heart. Cavestri draws inspiration from the solo concerts Keith Jarrett gave across Europe, starting with the legendary Köln Concert. It opens with 'Omen of a Sea' and closes with 'Souvenir di un Bacio', two pieces from his album NOÈ (Universal Music Italia, 2026).
The venue itself is part of the draw. The Pianodrome is a room where the piano stands at the centre surrounded by the audience, with no stage separating artist and listeners. The seating is built entirely from materials salvaged from abandoned, unused pianos. The evening is presented by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Edimburgo, the official Italian governmental body dedicated to promoting Italian language and culture in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
