Drop-in after-school sessions at the King's Theatre's Creative Engagement Studio for young theatre-goers to explore theatre heritage through self-directed activities.
Family drop-in activities start at The King's Theatre's Creative Engagement Studio on Thursday 29 October and run through to Thursday 26 November. They're designed for young theatre-goers to pop in after school for self-directed activities and a look at theatre heritage.
The sessions are run by the King's Theatre's Heritage Engagement Team, whose work often links back to 'The People's Archive' — a collection that helps audiences connect with the stories, people and performances that have shaped the city's theatres over the years. It's part of a wider heritage offering: Heritage Talks let you hear directly from people with first-hand experience of shaping theatre history in Edinburgh, covering the changes the King's Theatre has undergone across more than 120 years, while free Heritage Tours take you through the front-of-house spaces, led by skilled volunteers.
These drop-ins sit within Capital Theatres' 'Take Part' programme, which has separate strands for schools and teachers, young people and dementia-friendly audiences — the latter including an award-winning programme of performances, workshops and creative activities. The youth strand runs alongside a Youth Advisory Board of people aged 16-25 and a '25 and under' ticket scheme that offers £10 theatre tickets in Edinburgh.
