Pianist Yuki Negishi performs a programme including Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Debussy and Chopin, by candlelight at St Giles' Cathedral.
Yuki Negishi brings her piano recital to St Giles' Cathedral on Saturday 20 March 2027, as part of the cathedral's Evening Concert Series. It's a candlelight performance, so the piano programme is paired with the cathedral lit by candles rather than the usual house lights. The concert runs from 18:15 to 19:15, an hour's set in the heart of the Royal Mile.
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata takes centre stage, but it's not the only thing on the bill. Negishi builds the programme around it, pulling in works by Debussy and Chopin, along with some lesser-known and contemporary pieces. It's a mix of the familiar and the less-heard, so you'll get the big names alongside things you might not have come across before.
Negishi is a Steinway Artist who's played across Europe and at concerts and recitals in Japan, China, Bangladesh and the USA, with more than 800 performances in the UK. Her playing has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Scala Radio, Channel 4 and ITV. She also runs an online series called Piano Music by Women, which Pianist magazine singled out as exceptional.

It's a single-pianist recital, so the whole thing rests on her. The Moonlight Sonata is the anchor, and the rest of the set fills out around it. The concert is at St Giles' Cathedral on High Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1RE, on Saturday 20 March 2027, from 18:15 to 19:15.
