A candlelit concert by The Piccadilly Sinfonietta featuring operatic arias by Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Donizetti and Bizet, including 'Nessun dorma'.
The Piccadilly Sinfonietta bring A Night at the Opera to St Giles' Cathedral on Saturday 20 March, with soprano Susan Parkes on the arias. It's part of the cathedral's Evening Concert Series, and the whole thing is performed by candlelight, so the room will be lit by candles rather than the usual house lights.
The programme pulls from some of the biggest names in opera: Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Donizetti and Bizet. That covers a fair bit of ground, from the playful elegance of Mozart to the soaring drama of Puccini and Verdi, and Nessun dorma is on the set list. It's a collection of arias rather than a full opera, so you'll hear the stand-out pieces from several different works in one evening.
As for the ensemble, The Piccadilly Sinfonietta has been playing across the UK since 2017, with over 200 concerts a year in some of the country's most prestigious venues. They're known for their dynamic performances and for bringing classical music to life with flair and finesse, and for this one they'll be joined by some of the UK's finest operatic voices.
