Acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Eleanor McEvoy plays a stripped-back solo show at The Voodoo Rooms.
Eleanor McEvoy plays The Voodoo Rooms on Sunday 22nd November, starting at 7pm. She's an acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and this is a stripped-back, self-contained show: she carries an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, a violin, a piano and a small amp, and plays them all herself.
If her name rings a bell but you can't quite place it, you might know A Woman's Heart. She wrote, co-performed and produced the title track of the best-selling album in Irish history, which later featured in the award-winning TV show Derry Girls (2019). That's a good shorthand for the kind of songwriting she's known for — melodic, clear, and with a strong sense of place.
There's another side to her work as well. Her song 'Sophie' was described by David Smith in The Guardian as 'an anthem that is touching, inspiring and consoling thousands of anorexic girls around the world', and it's used internationally in treatment centres for eating disorders. It's the kind of song that does a lot of heavy lifting, and hearing it live is a different thing from hearing it on a record.

Between the two, you get a sense of what she does: songs that can work as pop and songs that lean into something more personal and direct. On the night, she'll be handling the instruments herself, so it's just her and the gear she brings. Tickets start from £22, and the show kicks off at 7pm at The Voodoo Rooms, 19a West Register Street, Edinburgh New Town EH2 2AA.
