Candlelit chamber music concerts with works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Haydn at St Giles Cathedral.
The Edinburgh Royal Mile Chamber Music Series returns to St Giles' Cathedral on Monday 19 October, part of its second season following a widely acclaimed launch. It's a candlelit chamber music concert, and the programme draws on the Classical and Romantic eras with works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Haydn, performed by a distinguished line-up of UK and international artists.
That's the core of what the series does: candlelit chamber music throughout 2026-27, with the Classical and Romantic eras as its anchor. The names on the bill β Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Haydn β are the heavyweights of those periods, and they're just a start, with the series bringing in more beyond them. The performers are a mix of UK and international artists, so you'll get a range of voices and styles on the same stage.
There's one particular detail worth noting for anyone who cares about the gear: the cathedral's offering was further enhanced by the installation of a new Steinway grand piano. It's a proper instrument for a space like this, and it'll be at the heart of the piano-led works that make up so much of the Classical and Romantic repertoire.
