Free outdoor Diwali festival with music, dance and cultural performances on Princes Street Gardens, marking the festival of lights.
Edinburgh Diwali returns to Princes Street Gardens on Sunday 15 November, marking the festival's 11th anniversary. It's a day of music, dance and cultural performances, with the gardens themselves providing the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle. The organisers describe it as a multi-cultural feast of light, music and dance, with food on the day and a celebration of community and togetherness.
There's a bit of history to this one. Edinburgh Diwali is a registered charity (SC047483) that grew out of an initiative by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh to bring Diwali, the Festival of Lights, to the city so the wider community could share in its celebration of the victory of good over evil. It's been running for five years now, and the ambition is to grow its visibility across the UK, with the goal of becoming the second most popular festival in Scotland after Christmas and Edinburgh's first winter festival.
The festival is led by a team headed by Lord Provost Rajnish Singh as Chairperson, with Satya as President, Ranjit Sinha as Vice President and Natarajan as Treasurer. On the day, you'll find cultural performances, food and the celebration of community that sits at the heart of it all, set against the backdrop of the Castle.
