Free, informal monthly reading group where members choose their own book and share their thoughts over coffee.
The Edinburgh Book Club meets at Levels Cafe & Lounge on Saturday 31 October, starting at 10:30 am. It's a free, informal reading group that runs monthly, and this one is open to anyone who fancies a morning of talking books over coffee.
What sets it apart from a lot of book clubs is that there's no set reading list. You choose your own bookโany genre you likeโand come along to share your thoughts. It's a 'bring your own' affair, so you can stick to what you actually enjoy reading rather than working your way through a group-chosen title. And if you haven't quite finished your book by the time the meeting rolls around, that's fine too; you can still join in and talk about what you've read so far.
The discussions usually run for two to three hours and cover a wide range of ground, from contemporary fiction to historical non-fiction. It's a community experience that brings together book lovers of all ages and backgrounds, and the group meets monthly in pub function rooms or cosy basement clubs across the city. This particular session is at Levels Cafe & Lounge, 9C Holyrood Road, in the heart of Edinburgh.

One thing to keep in mind: the organisers have warned about scammers pretending to be the club and asking for money or claiming to email authors. They've made it clear that there are no fees to join and they don't contact authors, so if you're approached with something like that, it's not them. The meeting itself is free, and it kicks off at 10:30 am on Saturday 31 October at Levels Cafe & Lounge, 9C Holyrood Road.
