Veteran improviser and musical comedian David Elms brings back his comedy show, built with the audience as a comedy mind palace.
David Elms brings David Elms Describes A Room to Monkey Barrel Comedy on Friday 12 March, the show returning to Edinburgh after sell-out runs at the Fringe and Soho Theatre. Elms is a musical comedian known for what's been called his intelligent whimsy, and this is the show he's built on the back of a sold-out London run in 2025 and a critically acclaimed, sold-out Edinburgh Fringe. It works by constructing a comedy mind palace together with the audience, so it's the kind of thing that changes depending on who's in the room.
Elms is a veteran improviser, and that's where the show gets its legs. Tim Key has described it as funny, original and different every time, which is a fair summary of how it functions: it's a collaboration between him and the crowd, and no two nights end up in the same place. The Scotsman called him 'beautiful, funny, clever and utterly engaging', and The Guardian said he 'offers something that feels entirely new'.

He's been around the circuit for a while, a Chortle finalist in 2012 and a face from BBC Three, and Describes A Room is the show he's been refining across those sell-out runs. It's a one-man show, with Elms as the sole performer on the bill. The performance runs for 60 minutes, starting at 8:00pm at Monkey Barrel Comedy Club, and tickets are £17.60 including the booking fee.
