Adult creative workshop led by artist Margaret Findlay to make cranberry wreaths that last year on year.
Lauriston Castle is hosting a cranberry wreath making workshop on Sunday 6 December, part of its wider programme of adult creative sessions led by local artists. This one is run by Margaret Findlay, and the whole thing is set within the castle's grounds, which look out across the Firth of Forth.
If you've never been, Lauriston is a 16th-century tower house with Victorian extensions and early 20th-century interiors, and the gardens are free to enter all year round. The house itself opens at set times by guided tour, alongside talks, creative workshops, film screenings and family activities. The collections inside were left to the city by the castle's last residents, so there's a bit of local history to soak up before or after you get stuck into the making.
As for the wreaths, they tend to lean on beautiful but artificial materials, which means they'll last year on year rather than just for one season. It's a good thing to keep in mind if you're planning to hang yours up and leave it there. During the session, you'll be provided with fresh coffee, tea and a sweet treat to keep you going while you work. You're advised to bring a packed lunch, or you can eat at Mimi's café on site.
