Weekly Sunday night of stand-up with a fresh bill of local talent and touring acts, hosted by Edinburgh comedian Michael Welch.
Craic Hoose Comedy is a weekly stand-up night at The Boston Bar Old Town, running every Sunday from 8pm to 10pm. It's hosted by Edinburgh's own Michael Welch, and the whole thing is built around new material, surprise guest spots and a lively crowd. The bill changes every week, so you'll see a fresh line-up each time, with local talent sharing the stage with established touring acts. If you go one Sunday and like it, you can head back the next and see a completely different set of comics.
Welch is the constant here. He's known for sharp observational comedy, confident storytelling and a fearless instinct for pushing jokes further. He was a finalist in The New Online UK Comedian of the Year 2020, later shortlisted for the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2022, and his Fringe debut earned a five-star review from Entertainment Now. His most recent show picked up four stars from Broadway Baby and One4Review, so he's more than capable of holding the room together while the line-up shifts around him.
Because the night is built on new material, it's a bit of a different beast from a polished touring show. You're seeing comedians work through things in front of a live audience, with the surprise guest spots adding another layer of unpredictability. It's the kind of night that rewards coming back, since the bill is fresh every week.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Edinburgh and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.
