One-day gluten-free Christmas baking class at the Edinburgh Food & Drink Academy to make a Yule Log, cinnamon rolls and mince pies.
Edinburgh Food & Drink Academy is running a one-day gluten-free Christmas baking class on Sunday 13 December, and if you've been wanting to get a few festive bakes sorted without the wheat, this is a proper way to do it. Over the course of the day, you'll make a yule log, cinnamon rolls and mince pies — three of the big ones for a Christmas spread, all gluten-free.
The academy is set in a Georgian townhouse in the city centre, at 7 Queen St, and it's more than just a place for the occasional short course. It's a working cookery school that trains professional chefs, with a Diploma in Professional Cookery, Continuing Professional Development and an Evening Introductory Award in Cookery Skills running alongside the themed classes. The building spans five floors with panoramic views across the Firth of Forth, and it was renovated to house a fully equipped teaching kitchen, a demonstration theatre that seats 50 and a function room for corporate entertainment or team building.
It's a place that takes its teaching seriously, and the alumni list backs that up. Past students include food and lifestyle influencer Pippa Perriam, Michelin-starred Heron head chef and owner Sam Yorke, and private caterer Emily Crisp, who said the school gave her the skills, knowledge and confidence to make a living of what she had always loved. Graduates have gone on to work at places like Castle Terrace.
