The Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical about 1920s Chicago, with music by Kander and Ebb and choreography by Bob Fosse.
Chicago is coming to the Edinburgh Playhouse from 23 November to 27 November 2027, as part of its UK tour. It's a short run, five days in total, so you'll need to pick your night early if you're planning to go.
The story is set in the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s and follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate Velma Kelly by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to turn her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines. It's a cynical, sharp-edged look at fame and the way the legal system can be gamed if you've got the right publicist.
Behind it are John Kander, Fred Ebb, and the legendary choreographer Bob Fosse, whose name is practically synonymous with the show's style. The score is sexy and sassy, and you'll recognise the big numbers: 'Razzle Dazzle', 'Cell Block Tango', and 'All That Jazz'. It's a production that's picked up six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, and a Grammy over the years, so it's well-known territory even if you've never seen it live.
