A multi-sensory candlelight concert paying tribute to the music of ABBA and Queen, performed under the gentle glow of thousands of LED candles.
Candlelight: Tribute to ABBA & More comes to St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral on Friday 4 December, starting at 7:15pm. It's a live musical programme paying tribute to the music of ABBA and Queen, played out under the glow of thousands of LED candles rather than real fire. The whole thing runs for around an hour.
If you've never been to one of these, the Candlelight series is a worldwide phenomenon that pairs a live musical programme with one of the city's most striking settings. In Edinburgh, they've worked in some of the grandest rooms around, from the Gothic spires of St Mary's to the Georgian elegance of the Assembly Rooms. The LED candles are the main thing that sets them apart from a standard gig, and they're used instead of real fire.
Past audiences have called the experience 'creative, enchanting and new', and the series has picked up plenty of five-star reviews along the way. This particular night focuses on ABBA and Queen, so you'll hear music from both bands played live in the cathedral.
