Caitlin Krisco and The Broadcast play The Voodoo Rooms on Saturday 23 January, with support from Al Hughes. They're a soul rock band from Asheville, North Carolina, formed in 2021, and this is their Edinburgh stop on a run that takes them across the Atlantic.
Krisco herself was born in Detroit and raised in New York City before settling in North Carolina, and you can hear that geography in the sound. It draws on East Coast rock and roll, Motown and roots music, delivered with soaring vocals, powerful grooves and emotional lyrics. She's worked with members of Tedeschi Trucks Band and David Bowie's Blackstar Band, and has shared stages with Mavis Staples, the late Charles Bradley, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Marcus King and Gregg Allman's Buffalo Mountain Jam. Rolling Stone called her voice 'one of the best kept vocal secrets of the south east'.
The band around her includes her husband Aaron Austin on guitar and background vocals, William Seymour on bass and background vocals, Michael W. Davis on drums and Tyler Housholder on percussion. Support act Al Hughes, frontman of Lights Out By Nine, plays a solo show blending traditional Delta and East Coast blues with his own compositions.
