Burns Night dinner with a three-course menu, poetry recited and an Address to the Haggis, followed by live music.
George IV Bar is doing Burns Night on Monday 25 January, the anniversary of Robert Burns' birth. It's a proper sit-down supper, the kind of evening that works best when you've got a few people to bring along.
The night is built around a three-course set menu, with poetry recited and roared aloud throughout the meal. The main course comes with the Address to the Haggis, and the whole thing is carried along by the skirl of the bagpipes. It's a candle-glow and claret sort of affair, held under the bar's old beams, with the house honouring Rabbie while the bellies fill and the spirits lift. Once the meal is done, live music takes over from 9 PM, so the night doesn't just end when the plates are cleared.
Under-18s are welcome as long as they're with a parent or legal guardian, which makes it easy to bring the whole family along if that's your thing. It runs from 7 PM to 11 PM, with doors opening at 6:45 PM, so you've got a bit of time to settle in before the first course comes out.
